Children worldwide have become swept up in the magical world of Harry Potter and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The books have been translated into numerous languages and the Harry Potter movies are certified mega hits (here’s our favorite review of Harry Potter DVDs). In the movies, the part of Harry is played by young actor Daniel Radcliffe, and the parts of Ron and Hermione are played by Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, respectively. Daniel Radcliffe has become one of the richest young people in England, richer even than young Princes of England, William and Harry! With this level of success, most young people have no trouble keeping up to date on the latest Harry Potter news, but just in case you are behind, we feature some of the latest news below.
In mid 2010, a Harry Potter theme park opened in Orlando, Florida. It is part of Universal Studios Orlando. The park has been an instant success. It features several signature rides including the Flight of the Hippogriff and Harry Potter’s Forbidden Journey, which offers a tour of the grounds and castle of Hogwarts, the school that Harry attends in the books and movies. There is also a replica of the village of Hogsmeade, where your young ones can visit Ollivander’s Wand Shop and pick out their own magic wand, just as Harry does in the first book, to help them practice casting their Harry Potter spells (their purchase can come with Harry Potter’s spell list in case they don’t yet have them memorized! After riding the rides and visiting the shops, your young ones can also sit and enjoy a mug of butterbeer, which is in actuality something like a cream soda ice cream float.
